“WeCYCLE Project" Fosters Public-Private Partnership for a Sustainable Future

Chonburi, Thailand, December 12, 2024 – WHA Corporation Public Company Limited (WHA), in collaboration with the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) and leading organizations such as PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SCGP), and BSGF Company Limited, has successfully organized the "We CYCLE DAY 2024" event under the WeCYCLE project. This initiative focuses on managing and adding value to waste materials such as plastic bottles, paper, and used cooking oil through recycling and upcycling processes to reduce environmental impact. This aligns with the company's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and enhancing the quality of life for communities in WHA's industrial estates.

The WeCYCLE DAY 2024 event, which has been held annually since 2022, aims to raise awareness about sustainability. This year, the project collected 58 tons of plastic bottles, 67 tons of paper, and 1.1 tons of used cooking oil from participating members. These materials were equivalent to reducing 259 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, or the equivalent of planting 28,700 trees.

The WeCYCLE project has produced various upcycled products, including plant kits and reading benches made from recycled paper and upcycled fabric woven from used plastic bottles and water hyacinth. These products have been donated to schools located near WHA's industrial estates. Additionally, the project has created upcycled fabric bags for essential items, which were donated to underprivileged patients and vulnerable groups. Furthermore, the project has produced antiviral bed sheets made from used plastic bottles for hospitals in the vicinity of WHA's industrial estates. Sustainable aviation fuel, produced from used cooking oil, has also been developed to support clean energy.

The success of the WeCYCLE project in 2024 is attributed to the strong collaboration between WHA Corporation, IEAT, and its partners: GC, SCGP, and BSGF. The project has also received support from customers, suppliers, contractors, local government agencies, and schools. WHA utilizes electric pickup trucks to collect plastic bottles, paper, and used cooking oil from participating members, which are then transported to WHA's WeCYCLE center. Subsequently, GC's YOUTURN vehicles collect plastic bottles, SCGP's vehicles collect paper, and BGCP's vehicles collect used cooking oil for recycling and upcycling processes. These efforts contribute to a sustainable future for communities and the environment.
