01/02/2010
Bangkok, 28 January 2010: Ms. Narisara Chavaltanpipat, Deputy Minister of Education, presided over the MOU signing ceremony between Hemaraj Land And Development Public Company Limited, Office of the Vocational Education Commission (VEC) and Office of The Basic Education Commission (OBEC) to organize “Industrial Skill Training Project” for students from extended schools under the Chonburi Educational Service Office Area 3 and Rayong Educational Service Office Area 1.
The project objective is to equip the students with industrial skills essential for their future employment. It also helps broaden students’ perspectives on vocational education that gives them a promising career alternative, particularly in response to the requirements of the industrial sector.
The project focuses on improving industrial skills by providing alternative subjects such as industrial hygiene and safety class for Mathayom 3 students, and elementary electricity class for Mathayom 2 students. The schools in the pilot project include seven schools in areas around Hemaraj’s industrial estates, four out of which are in Chonburi Educational Service Area 3 comprising of Baan Bowin School, Baan Hubbon School, Baan Surasak School, and Baan Khaokansong School; three schools in Rayong Educational Service Area 1 including Eastern Sugar Mill School, Baan Pakpraek School and Nikom Sang Ton Aeng, Rayong 8 School.
Ms. Narisara Chavaltanpipat, Deputy Minister of Education said: “The Ministry of Education is committed to developing human resources as they are expected to be a driving force behind the country’s development. The collaboration of two national educational agencies, Office of the Vocational Education Commission (VEC) and Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), in cultivating essential vocational skills among school students will significantly benefit Thailand’s strategy for the development of the industrial sector.”
Mr. Sawasdi Horrungruang, Chairman of Advisors to the Board of Directors, Hemaraj Land And Development Plc., said: “The signing of this MOU is a major step for a better collaboration between the government and private sector. It will help strengthen and develop industrial workforce, resulting in improvement in the country’s competitiveness. We believe this initiation will pave way to further project expansion.”
Mr. Vivat Jiratikarnsakul, Executive Vice President, Hemaraj Land And Development Plc., also pointed out: “To address the needs of the industrial sector, the generous support and development of labor skills is really critical as the demand for skilled labor is persistently increasing. However, school students’ interest in furthering their study in vocational fields is not matching with the demand due to the lack of understanding. Consequently, many students aim to follow undergrad path despite the fact that vocational programs seem to suit their capabilities better. The collaboration is therefore destined to guide secondary school students to the basics and broaden their horizon in industrial and vocational fields. This will benefit their future study and career path..”
Under the MOU, Hemaraj is responsible for the cooperation between Rayong Technical College, which represents VEC, the Chonburi Educational Service Office Area 3 and the Rayong Educational Service Office Area 1. Both Educational Service Office Areas are directly responsible for the coordination with participating schools, course schedule, and campaign for more participating schools as well as monitor the project. Rayong Technical College develops course outlines, curriculums and plans, provides trainers, and prepares equipment and materials as necessary for the courses to ensure the required standard. Any participating student who completes the course as specified will be awarded a certificate, of which credits received are transferable when applying to a vocational college degree program.
Previously, Hemaraj has joined hands with VEC to set up Skill Training and Development Center at its Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate (Rayong). The center provides Accreditation Program for High Vocational Certificate, skill enhancement courses, and trainings as required by entrepreneurs and manufacturers.
