Bangkok, November 6, 2017 – WHA Corporation PCL, Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Engineering and the municipality of Laem Chabang jointly announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of wastewater management and treatment.

Effective for three years, this MoU agreement is part of WHA Group’s Clean Water for Planet CSR initiative.  It covers the joint organization by WHA Corporation and Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Engineering of practical training courses for the executives and staff of Laem Chabang City Municipality on wastewater management and treatment.

This MoU agreement follows the signing, in September 2016, of an initial MoU between WHA Corporation and Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Engineering that enabled students, through a custom-built curriculum, to develop new technologies in water management and treatment.

Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Engineering will provide experts and academic knowledge while WHA Corporation will open its Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate (ESIE) to the trainees.  Through easy-to-learn and well-designed training courses, the objective is to enhance their knowledge and encourage good practices in a real industrial environment. This will help improve the efficiency of wastewater management and treatment techniques in Laem Chabang. The scope of the MoU also covers the utmost use of treated water for sustainable water management, with the hope to see this initiative serve as a successful pilot project for wastewater treatment in communities nationwide.

Mr. Vivat Jiratikarnsakul, Hemaraj Chief Operating Officer Industrial and International said: “We are very happy, together with Chulalongkorn University, to sign this MoU and extend our experience to Laem Chabang, one of the well-known municipalities in the country, covering the main commercial port and a major industrial city of Thailand.”

“This will contribute to the development of the Eastern Economic Corridor and we are proud that our Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate will serve as a real environment learning center for our two partners. Moreover, we are delighted to set the standards for environment-friendly techniques and practices in water management and treatment that were inspired by our beloved late King Bhumibol,” he explained.

Dr. Supot Teachavorasinskun, Dean of Chulalongkorn’s Faculty of Engineering, said: “This MoU with WHA Corporation and the municipality of Laem Chabang represents a great opportunity for our teachers and students to share the techniques and practices they have learned within the past twelve months at Hemaraj’s industrial estates. As part of WHA Corporation’s Clean Water for Planet CSR project, Chulalongkorn University has sent environmental engineering students for the training program at Hemaraj’s industrial estates.  Extending our activities to Laem Chabang City Municipality will give us the chance to observe the latest technologies and benefit from real-life experience in the vital field of wastewater management, which is of utmost importance to the society.”

Mrs Jinda Thanomrod, Laem Chabang City Municipality Mayor, declared: ‘We are very pleased to sign this MoU with WHA Corporation and Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Engineering. Thanks to the experience of our two partners and our own efforts, we hope that our city will become a model for sustainable development in water management. We are confident that we will not only improve our systems, but also optimize our costs and enhance our waste water treatment to serve the EEC plan for both city and industrial development.”
