Press Release: Houay Ho Power celebrates 10th COD Anniversary

Vientiane, Houay Ho Power Co., Ltd. (HHPC) has celebrated the 10th COD Anniversary of Houay Ho Hydropower Project. HHPC is a joint venture between Glow Energy Plc., EDL and Hemaraj Land and Development Plc.

The executive guests at the 10th Anniversary Celebrations included representatives from Laos PDR and Thai Government Authorities, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), HHPC’s shareholders Glow Energy Plc, Electricity du Lao (EDL) and Hemaraj Land and Development Plc. HHPC operates a 152 megawatt hydro power plant in Attapeu province, Laos People's Democratic Republic, under a 30-year concession from the Laos Government. HHPC has contracted the electricity capacity of 126 megawatts to EGAT, and also sells electricity to EDL, which is supplied to local communities in Attapeu area.


Speaking at the celebrations, Mr. Esa Heiskanen, Chairman of the Board of HHPC and the Chief Executive Officer of Glow Energy Plc. said, “The Houay Ho power plant started its commercial operations in September 1999. It was a pioneer project, and one of the most successfulprojects developed under the Power Purchase Program between the Governments of Laos PDR and Thailand”.

He pointed out that social responsibility was one of the company’s main corporate values. “We will continue to implement our social and community development program in areas such as educational development, quality of life improvement and health care. Being a responsible corporate citizen is a core value for us, and we believe this will contribute to further development of the communities around us, including the Attapeau province and Laos in general.”
