Health and Environment Update Following LLIT Thailand Incident

12/02/2015

Following the fire that broke out last February 1 at LLIT (Thailand) Co., Ltd. warehouses, the team composed of Hemaraj Land And Development Plc. firefighters, Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) officers, LLIT employees and local officials, were tasked to observe the site for the next 3 - 4 days.

On February 3 and 4, a medical mobile unit from Fort Nawamintharachini Hospital in Chonburi, with the support of the public health team from Tambon Khao Khan Song Health Promoting Hospital, offered free check-ups to residents of Chompol Chaopraya community, Khao Khan Song SAO. Officers from Nong Khang Khao and Tasit communities, and Khao Khan Song and Chompol Chaopraya subdistricts also cooperated in this public service effort.

On February 5, Hemaraj and IEAT sent a medical mobile unit to the communities to provide check-ups, answer pollution-related questions and share preventive measures with residents. No cases of respiratory complications were reported, as examinations only showed symptoms of common ailments.

To monitor the environmental conditions, IEAT set up a mobile Air Quality Monitoring System (AQMS) on February 2, in several areas of Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate and Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate (Rayong). Tests covering 3 kilometers southwest of LLIT showed that from February 2 to 3, presence of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) did not exceed the standard level. In addition, the Hemaraj environmental team monitored air quality in different sites at the estates through the Environmental Monitoring and Control Center (E:mc^2) and found no unusual results. Hemaraj will continue to work with IEAT and other authorities to monitor the situation closely.

The team collected water samples from 4 sources near the LLIT compound. Tests revealed no chemical contamination in the community’s water sources. Hemaraj continues to provide water testing services to manufacturers in the industrial estates.

Hemaraj will continue to closely work with IEAT and related parties to monitor and follow up on the incident.
