Hemaraj and AMCHAM donate Bt. 1.2 million for 14 schools
Bangkok, December 2006: Fourteen schools in Chonburi and Rayong received capital improvements and learning tools worth Bt. 1.2 million from Thailand’s world class industrial estates developer Hemaraj Land And Development Plc. and the American Chamber of Commerce Thailand (AMCHAM) under the ‘Adopt A School’ Program in 2006.
The 14 primary schools around Hemaraj’s industrial estates on the Eastern Seaboard which received the benefit are Baan Khao Tabak, Baan Wang Pradu, Nikom 13, Baan Khao Chee, Baan Khao Hin, Baan Phan Sadej Nai, Baan Bor Win, Baan Phan Sadej Nok, Baan Nern Tong, Baan Hoob Bon, Baan Nong Fab, Nong Rakam, Map Chalood and Nikom 2.
As part of the current year’s contribution, Hemaraj has donated Bt. 800,000 to AMCHAM Thailand Charitable Foundation. With an additional 50% matching grant from AMCHAM, the total amount of Bt 1.2 million was spent on providing capital improvements to school facilities and learning tools for the 14 schools.
According to Mr. David Nardone, Hemaraj’s President & CEO, the ‘Adopt A School Program’ has been very gratifying and serves as an important component of Hemaraj’s overall Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
“In the ‘Adopt A School Program’, Hemaraj assesses the needs of each school and then provides the schools with what they exactly require. Some schools need repairs on deteriorating facilities and roofs while others require refurbishments to communal washing areas and toilets. Provision of educational materials is also central to the ‘Adopt A School Program’. Library books, computer sets and educational software have been provided. The ‘Adopt A School Program’ therefore provides Hemaraj a unique and very rewarding opportunity to contribute to the welfare and future of Thailand’s rural children,” stated Mr. Nardone.
AMCHAM’s Executive Director, Ms. Judy A. Benn, commented that the ‘Adopt A School Program’ provides a wonderful opportunity for AMCHAM members to take part in and share responsibilities in Thai society in a meaningful way.
“By making a donation through this program, our member companies can make a real difference in the lives of children in rural Thailand and, in a small way, improve the quality of life in a village school,” Ms. Benn stated.
The ‘Adopt A School Program’ is one of several Hemaraj CSR programs that provide the company with the opportunity to contribute and ‘give back’ to the Thai society. For more than 11 years, the company has coordinated industrial estate customer annual school contribution programs now reaching 34 schools in Chonburi and Rayong with over 7,500 students. Hemaraj also provides fully paid four year scholarships and expense stipends to local secondary graduates allowing them the opportunity to study at a university. So far, seven worthy students have been granted scholarships to attend university and technical vocational college.
Other Hemaraj CSR programs include the Involved With Our Neighbors program, where the company has supported numerous charity and community events in the areas of environmental care, medical visits, participation in local activities and providing employment within communities. And in support of the Performing Arts through The Park Chidlom, the company’s top-end condominium project, Hemaraj serves as a sponsor of the Bangkok Opera and its resident orchestra The Siam Philharmonic, both under Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana.
