WHA Industrial Estate and IEAT Honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother with Five-Rai Tree Planting Initiative

Chonburi, August 7, 2024 – WHA Industrial Development PLC (WHAID), a leader in industrial estate development, in collaboration with the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), hosted the “WHA Five-Rai Tree Planting Project in Honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.” This event, themed “Let’s Zero Together – Plant for a Sustainable Future,” aligns with the vision of industrial development aimed at achieving carbon neutrality. It celebrates the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty's 92nd birthday on August 12, 2024, and took place at WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 2.

Mr. Rakphol Kangnoi, Director of Industrial Estate Operations at WHAID, expressed deep gratitude and loyalty to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, whose compassion for the Thai people has inspired countless initiatives. The project echoes Her Majesty’s commitment to environmental conservation, particularly through the “Pa Rak Nam” and “Ban Lek Nai Pa Yai” projects, which focus on forest and plant protection.

This collaborative effort between IEAT, the WHA Group, its partners, clients, and the local community aims to contribute to environmental conservation and societal well-being. By planting 15,165 trees across five rai of land, the initiative aims to expand green spaces in Chonburi, providing oxygen and mitigating climate change. This is in line with the WHA Group’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality, or “Net Zero.”

In total, 15,165 trees of various species were planted on five rai of land. These species include Lagerstroemia (Ta-Baek), Mahogany, Neem, Tabebuia (Khae-Na), Dipterocarpus alatus (Yang Na), Leucaena (Katin Thepa), Mulberry, Ma Maow (a local plant), and Ficus, among others.

The project employed an eco-forestry approach, planting a dense mix of native and companion plant species to mimic a natural forest ecosystem. This method promotes biodiversity and creates a habitat for wildlife. The selected tree species, including Lagerstroemia, Mahogany, Neem, Tabebuia, Dipterocarpus alatus, Leucaena, Mulberry, Ma Maow, and Ficus, are fast-growing and efficient at absorbing carbon dioxide while producing oxygen, contributing to the reduction of global warming.

Each tree species was carefully selected, focusing on fast-growing, endemic trees of the eastern region that can absorb significant amounts of carbon dioxide and produce high levels of oxygen. This selection further contributes to reducing global warming, in line with the industrial estate's development goal of carbon neutrality – “Let’s Zero Together – Plant for a Sustainable Future.”
