WHAID - WHAUP Join Forces with PEA and PEA ENCOM to Develop Power Systems Supporting Data Center Customer Demand

The signing took place at the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) headquarters.

Bangkok – WHA Industrial Development Public Company Limited (WHAID) and WHA Utilities and Power Public Company Limited (WHAUP) have joined forces with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and PEA ENCOM International Company Limited (PEA ENCOM) to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore the development of a stable and efficient power system and suitable electricity distribution models for Data Center businesses. The collaboration aims to support high-demand electricity users, particularly those located in WHA Industrial Estates.

Mr. Pajongwit Pongsivapai Chief Executive Officer of WHA Industrial Development Public Company Limited (WHAID), stated that this collaboration aims to assess the feasibility of developing a stable and efficient energy system to meet the growing electricity demand from Data Centers. “Since 2023, digital and technology customers have accounted for over 16% of WHAID’s total industrial estate customer base. This partnership aligns with WHA’s Smart Eco Industrial Estate concept, which focuses on building modern, eco-friendly infrastructure and promoting efficient energy management. It strikes a balance between competitiveness and sustainable growth while reinforcing Thailand’s position as a regional Data Center hub.”

Mr. Akarin Prathuangsit Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of WHA Utilities and Power Public Company Limited (WHAUP), added “By partnering with PEA and PEA ENCOM, we are joining forces with strong allies to establish a stable, flexible, and resilient power system capable of supporting high electricity demand from Data Centers and emerging industries. This collaboration also opens doors for developing innovative energy solutions such as open electricity trading systems, Peer-to-Peer Energy Trading platforms, and Smart Grids. Furthermore, it paves the way for future technologies including SMR, Fuel Cells, and Hydrogen, enhancing Thailand’s long-term energy security and supporting the country’s transformation into a regional hub for New S-Curve industries.”

Mr. Pradit Fuangfoo, Deputy Governor (Corporate Strategy) of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), remarked: “PEA is delighted to collaborate with WHAID, WHAUP, and PEA ENCOM to develop internationally standardized and reliable power infrastructure for Data Center businesses and key electricity users in industrial estates.
