IEAT Update on LLIT Thailand Fire at Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate

02/02/2015
Mr. Verapong Chaiperm, Governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) revealed that:

• At 19:00 last night, a massive fire went out at LLIT (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a radial tyre manufacturer situated on a 333-rai plot in Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate, Pluakdaeng Rayong province. The THB 2.7 billion plant has 619 employees. The fire started from a tyre warehouse and spread out to other warehouses nearby, which comprises six buildings. Each warehouse is 5 meters apart from each other. However, this has not affected the production building.
• Initially, IEAT ordered Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate to announce an Emergency Plan Level 2. Many fire engines rushed to the area and nearby provincial districts in an effort to control the situation. Twenty fire trucks attempted to extinguish the fire, which eventually was put under control. There were no injuries.
• Results of Air Quality Management (Hemaraj station) reports that the Air Pollution Index PM/SO2, NO2 is higher, but not beyond the standard. In addition, IEAT has arranged a Mobile Unit from Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate to the scene to monitor air quality and to reassure communities around the plant.
